A
well-known corporate client approached us to design
a new space within the confines of a small shopping
area.
Goals: The
empty space had to house a large installation area,
lots of office space, and a reception/waiting room
ready to greet customers, display the interactive
products, and provide relaxing or working areas for
the clients who had to wait an average of two hours
for the installation to be completed.
Solution:
The large installation area took a considerable chunk
of the space, which left us with an L-shaped space
for reception an office space. The office area became
long and narrow. Therefore we chose a monochromatic
light beige color scheme for the carpet and the panel
system furniture that created the individual office
spaces. But we played with the textures! Suede wall
finishes, and a multi-hued Berber-type carpet provided
a perfect foil for the soft velvety texture of the
panels. Inside the workstations, the finishes resembled
warm sand. The chairs, in a wonderful turquoise green
offered a bright and energizing spot to allow for
much needed concentration while working. We lowered
the partitions to 48" and installed planters above
every station to provide fresh air and additional
privacy. We installed up-beat artwork with outdoor
scenes at the end of every corridor, as well as in
the entrance to the sales area. To compensate for
the lack of natural light on the other half of the
space we recommended troughs just below the ceiling
that concealed warm color-corrected lighting. In the
reception we created intimate, well defined areas
for private client work and a larger one geared for
those who preferred reading or playing games while
waiting. We continued here with the earth tones and
turquoises, but we added warm woods and a touch of
deep rose to the reception station fabric, which also
carried into the art. The art here depicted tranquil
water scenes. The results were outstanding. The office
work appeared smooth, and customers did not seem to
mind the waiting period!
